Sumerduck, VASumerduck Dragway hosted The Roger Curtis Memorial Footbrake Nationals on Saturday July 20-July 21. Many thought Saturday's race would be canceled due to thunderstorms throughout the area. Satisfying racers needs the rain went away and the sunshine came out!
The best footbrakers from the area came out to support the $5,000 to win races for both days. There were 65 cars total for Saturday's race as quite a few stayed home assuming the race would get rained out. It was stated...

The 4.90 Index racers returned to Northeast Dragway Saturday night providing side by side, pro-tree racing at it’s best.
The 4.90 Index class leaves on a four tenths pro tree and must run as close to 4.90 seconds in the eighth mile as possible without running under, or going to fast. An elapsed time of 4.89 or faster would cause a break out foul and an automatic loss.

As torrential rains and high winds hammered the area on Saturday, Northeast Dragway dodged the bullet and completed the fifth points race of the season. A few light showers moved through early, just enough to settle the dust, and were all but a memory by the start of time runs as racers set their sights on winning rounds and collecting points.

One of the most important drag racing skills to learn is knowing exactly when to mash the gas and go. Racers refer to this as reaction time or cutting a good light. A perfect light for bracket racers is .500 and a perfect light for pro-tree racers is .400. Anything under that number results in a red light foul and an automatic loss.

Petersburg, VAVMP held its first Double Race Day of the 2009 season and Junior Dragster Chad Logan made the most of it, sweeping both races and snagging a comfortable 94 point lead over second place Ken Dabney Jr. In Race One, Logan defeated Malik Poindexter with an 8.919, 74 MPH pass.
