Spring Coalition returns to Rockinham Dragway
Rockingham Dragway had two days of racing on tap this past weekend that boasted a 5K top and 2K mod purse. Saturdays race was cancelled due to high winds (40-50 MPH gusts). Track owner , Steve Earwood decided to add the win and runner up money to the purse on Sunday and Run for a 10K to win top and 4 K to win mod. The racers were blessed with great weather for racing on Sunday. Due to lower than expected car count, racers were allowed to buy back first and second round.
The Footbrake
Class looked like a who's who of the top NC racers. One of the toughest
runs that I saw for the day was the semi-final match up between Roger Rhodes and
Chris Plott. Rhodes in the right lane was dialed a 6.62 and Plott in the
left lane was dialed a 6.60. Rhodes took the win with a 6.624 but Plott
gave a heck of fight with his dead on with 3. Slight starting line
advantage gave Rhodes the win. Rhodes went on to win the race when he took
out Kenny Roberts.

The top run for
10K came down to a dragster/door car finals. The door car was driven by
Tommy Duff Jr. who was footbraking the beautiful Nova. The dragster which
was driven by the always tough Tommy Strickland got the win light and the 10K
payday.

I was reminded by some of the NC racers that the next Big $$ payday in NC for top racing will be the 1st Annual Pappy's Nationals which will be held March 21-23 at Thunder Valley Dragway in Red Springs NC FLYER FOR DETAILS
